All that most people know about zodiac signs is what the horoscope from their newspaper or a magazine predicts for this week. The truth is, heavenly bodies (planets, moons, stars…) influence human psyche and behaviour. The ancient Egyptians knew all this and therefore studied the movements of stars and planets around them and used this knowledge in their daily life and also predicted events in the far future including the end of their own civilization a few thousands years before it actually happened.
It was the ancient Egyptians who divided the sky into twelve equal fractions and made up a constellation for the stars in each fraction for easier recognition and orientation. The constellations don’t reakly exists. It’s just our human nature to group and organize, to create order out of chaos.
The Egyptians assigned certain qualities to the planets and zodiac constellations. You can achieve more with less effort if you choose optimal times for your daily tasks in alignment with the influence of the planets.
I recently started working more with my Thoth Tarot Deck. Tarot is not for predicting future. It’s a complete guide to human mind but speaks metaphorically through images. The larger deck you can afford, the better. There are so many details you could not even spot on small cards.
Tarot is a complete guide to human mind.
Each card also portrays either a zodiac sign or a planetary symbol or both so I thought it’s about time for me to learn them. Using Montessori 3-part cards is a great way to learn things like that so feel free to download the collection of Zodiac Signs and Planetary symbols and lets play!
How to make The Zodiac Signs and Planetary Symbols Montessori 3-part Cards
Open the pdf file in Adobe Reader.
Select File ⇒ Print and the Print dialog will open.
The Zodiac Signs and Planetary Symbols Montessori 3-part Cards are purposely created in a larger size (four cards per a letter size paper) but can be easily scaled down like this:
Click on Multiple tab ⇒ Pages per sheet 2. This will print 8 cards on a letter size paper. Check the preview and if you’re happy with it, click Print.
Cut the cards along the lines.
You can mount the 3-part cards on a coloured card if you like. Here are measurement for a regular A4 paper (297x210mm). If your paper has different dimensions, adjust them measurements accordingly. Use a lead pencil and a ruler to draw the lines.
Use a glue stick to glue cards onto the coloured card.
If you want to make your cards more durable, you can laminate them. I push the whole sheet through my laminator, then turn over and laminate again. Then I cut around the edges and along the lead pencil lines and then push individual cards through the laminator again, sometimes more than once because the laminating foil doesn’t stick to the thick card easily without making bubbles.
Influence of heavenly bodies on human sould and spirit can’t be measured by modern purely materialistic science therefore it’s not a part of a traditional curriculum. However, considering how much knowledge and technology the ancient civilizations had which we don’t have nowadays, I think we should re-look at the way we educate our children and ourselves and move towards holistic approach that takes into account not just the matter but also spirit, soul and ego.
Luckily, most of us have enough freedom to choose what we want to think and learn outside school and workplace. The purpose of The Zodiac Signs and Planetary Symbols Montessori 3-part Cards is not to mechanically memorize a few terms. Symbols speak to us on a subconscious level. Just spending some time playing with them and looking at them might have a great impact on your spirit and soul.
