The Ultimate Guide to Instructional Bellydance With Jillina – Level 1

In this detailed guide to Instructional Bellydance With Jillina Level 1, you will find all you need for you home practice – the DVD contents with time marks, all combinations and choreography recorded in tables for easiers memorization, practice tips and music used on the DVD.

Even though the Instructional Bellydance With Jillina Level 1 DVD is aimed at beginners, it’s great even for more experienced dancers. It features a choreography to the first part of Alf Leyla Wa Leyla by Cairo Orchestra.

The DVD provides a lot of material for your own practice. Remember, there is a huge difference between “I know this chorography” and I can perform this choreography with precision, exact timing and expression like Jillina does.

Instructional Bellydance With Jillina – Level 1

Music – Alf Leyla Wa Leyla

Alf Leyla Wa Leyla is a beautiful traditional song. You can find dozens of different versions but this one by Cairo Orchestra is my favourite.

Alf Leyla Wa Leyla by Cairo Orchestra is over 6 minutes long! Jillina uses only the first part of the song so if you want to perform it, you will need to edit the music on your computer.

The song is amazing because it features various middle-eastern rhythms. This may cause a little confusion when counting because you simply can’t count at the same speed all the time. Sometimes you need to count slower, sometimes faster according to the current rhythm and tempo. You can learn more about it in Alf Leyla Wa Leyla – musical analysis for belly dancers.

DVD Contents:

You can buy a separated DVD Instructional Bellydance With Jillina – Level 1 or a box set Instructional Bellydance with Jillina Levels 1 , 2 & 3. I happend to have the latter so the time markers in the DVD content below might vary a little for the other version.

How to understand the dance notes

With the exception of using Labanotation, I found recording belly dance notes into tables the most effective. There can be several columns in the table – time marks to help you find the exact section of the song, counts, steps and body movements and arms.

Body and arm movements on the same line happen at the same time. Arm position applies across multiple rows until it changes into another arm position.

Abbreviations

  • + – movements happen simultaniously
  • , – movemets follow each other
  • L – left
  • R – right
  • db – downbeat
  • cw – clockwise
  • ccw – counter clockwise
